Sonoma Portworks Post-Holiday Blues Tasting Event

Saturday, January 12, and Sunday, January 13, 2019 from 12:00 PM to 05:00 PM

Sonoma Portworks, 613 Second Street, Petaluma, California 94952

Sonoma Postworks has the post-holiday blues... and they’re delicious! The only winery in Sonoma County specializing in ports and after-dinner wines, drop by this weekend and enjoy their offering of a complimentary pairing of their hand (and foot)-crafted varietal ports with a selection of local blue cheeses. Sonoma Portworks Petite Sirah, Petit Verdot, and Norton ports are made from sustainably-grown grapes. Once in the cellar, they nurture these ports, from crushing through extensive barrel aging and bottling. In addition to sampling the ports with blue cheeses, Sonoma Portworks will also be pouring other award-winning ports and after-dinner wines: DECO port with essences of dark chocolate; DUET cream sherry with essences of hazelnut; Maduro Tawny Port and a Cask Reserve port. What are you waiting for?!?

The New Deal in Sonoma

Saturday, January 12, 2019 from 02:00 PM to 03:00 PM

Sonoma Community Center, 276 East Napa Street, Sonoma , California 95476

Immerse yourself in a little bit of county history as the Sonoma Valley Historical Society's Second Saturday Lecture: Harvey Smith presents "The New Deal". Get to know more about these works and appreciate the hard work that these laborers did! The projects, built by the Works Progress Administration and Civilian Conservation Corps, included runways for a now defunct Santa Rosa airport, Analy High and Sonoma County's Community Hospital. In Sonoma County, many of the structures have survived, a testament to the work of the laborers. At Santa Rosa Junior College, projects included the Luther Burbank Theater and the Jesse Peters Museum and Analy Hall. There was a Mission Revival-style Valley of the Moon fire station; buildings at the Sonoma Developmental Center at Glen Ellen; the amphitheater at Armstrong Redwoods State Reserve; and Juilliard Park in Santa Rosa. New Deal workers plastered the Sonoma Mission and rebuilt the Vallejo home in Sonoma, built Annapolis Road and constructed early flood-control, sewage and water Systems in Sonoma and Sonoma County.
