Music has always played an important part in social justice work. Information that might hit barriers in the mind has a better chance of going straight to the heart with music. Karym Sánchez, a hip hop artist and former youth community organizer with the North Bay Organizing Project and current organizer in the Central Valley, will be performing his social justice hip hop pieces at UUP during worship. The “Six Elements of the Hip Hop Movement,” as coined by Ronald Savage, formerly of Zulu Nation, are Consciousness Awareness, Civil Rights Awareness, Activism Awareness, Justice, Political Awareness, and Community Awareness in music.
