Opening Reception, The Petaluma Historical Library and Museum

Saturday, October 6, 2018 from 05:00 PM to 08:00 PM

Petaluma Historical Library & Museum, 20 Fourth Street, Petaluma, California 94952

The Petaluma Historical Library & Museum presents a new exhibit: "A Story of Civic Progress & Pride". Join in the opening reception and a celebration of historian Lucy Kortum and her preservation of California Carnegie Libraries. As part of its 40th Anniversary Celebration, the exhibit affords the opportunity to highlight the history of the PMA while also imparting the remarkable story of the building in its manifestations as the Petaluma Carnegie Library and as the Petaluma Historical Library & Museum.Three themes will run throughout the exhibit: the wisdom of architectural preservation (a goal of the exhibit is to bring attention to the need to retrofit the building); the cooperation between Petaluma’s citizens and city officials in planning, building, repurposing and maintaining the PHL&M; and the essential role women and Progressive Era policy played in the building’s history. An extensive, free Program of Public Service has been scheduled to accompany the exhibit; a tour of the exhibit will be given each weekend by its curator, Paula Freund; and reservations for private and school group tours will be taken.
