An open house around the holidays can be challenging but exciting. No need to brainstorm what theme to use as most of your guests already know what to expect. Just a little imagination and creativity are sure to bring out your home’s holiday season appeal.

Here are some interesting ways to prepare your home for a Holiday Open House

1. Select a few dates and times.

It's not uncommon for people to have more time off work during the holiday season than at other times throughout the year. We typically see that home buyers have more time to look at homes during the holiday season. Having your home on the market at a time when buyers are most available, will greatly increase your chances of landing the perfect buyer for your home.

2. Keep your home warm and cozy.

The comfort of your guests definitely comes first. Be mindful of the home's heating system and make sure that it is working properly. Make sure to have it serviced well ahead of your showing schedule. If you have a fireplace make sure to turn it on during your open house to add to the cozy ambiance.

3. Treats and Refreshments.

Place some home baked goods on a decorative plate on a kitchen table or countertop. Again, you want to have a cozy, inviting feeling in your home. Most people house shopping are looking for their future home and are envisioning their future in your home. What better way to invoke a feeling of home than the smell and taste of fresh baked goods? Bottled water or some refreshments would also be a nice touch.

4. Decorate your home with holiday cheer.

Simply put, homes show better during the holidays. The holiday decorations, twinkling lights, and Christmas trees do the work for you. Buyers absolutely love the staging and decorating of homes this time of year. Keep in mind not to over do it and have the appearance of a cluttered home.

5. Give your garden a mini makeover.

Give your garden the makeover that it deserves. Water the plants, pull some weeds and sweep any debris that may be in the front or backyard. Add a touch of holiday cheer by decorating the yard with more yuletide-themed decorations or put up some lights to add to the festive ambiance.
